Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, author of the Declaration of Independence, and founder of the University of Virginia, was quoted as having once said, “Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies.” Could it be that this lawyer, slave owner, local and national politician and father of six was merely philosophic in his assessment, or did he know something that we are only now struggling to learn?

For once it would be nice to get some honest, straightforward, non-manipulated information on unemployment. You know what I mean, we’ve heard it all; the left argues ‘the economy is improving as evidenced by the downward trending unemployment rate’, but on the right we hear ‘unemployment is declining because people have stopped looking for jobs’, and then there is the middle which says ‘unemployment statistics don’t take into account the under-employed’. Obviously there is truth to the old adage, ‘figures lie and liars figure’.
